Employment Opportunity: Growing Up Organic Coordinator (SDG)
Canadian Organic Growers’ Ottawa-St. Lawrence-Outaouais
chapter, in partnership with All Things Food, is seeking a Coordinator to implement
the Growing Up Organic garden and farm-based education program in Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry
Counties.
The Coordinator’s main responsibilities will include:
- Providing core support and technical assistance to schools in SD&G in establishing school gardens and garden programs;
- Delivering GUO curriculum-connected garden-based workshops to students from grades 3-10;
- Coordinating the delivery of Farm-Gate Cafés in schools;
- Coordinating GUO communications and outreach activities, including but not limited to: making presentations on GUO programming, issuing local media releases, attending relevant community events, and engaging with community partners and supporters via social media;
- Securing funding for program expenses;
- Establishing relationships with local businesses to procure garden materials; and
- Recruiting and supervising volunteers.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience working with children and youth, preferably in environmental education
- Knowledge of organic principles related to food production, food security issues, agricultural issues
- Personal creativity, strategic judgment and vision
- Ability to work with and supervise people of all ages, especially children and youth
- Strong ability to identify challenges and opportunities, create effective plans, and deliver results
- Self-directed, exceptional time-management skills, and the ability to work autonomously
- Strong grant writing and fundraising skills
- Strong skills in outreach, communications, and social media
- A high level of personal and professional integrity
- Experience with children, youth and food programming
- Police record check for working with vulnerable populations
- Ability to speak French is an asset
- Knowledge of the Ontario curriculum is an asset
Hours for this position are flexible with an average
of 15 hours/weekly (high season = February to June; low season: July-August), remunerated
at a wage of $23/hour. The position will be home-based, and will require access
to a personal vehicle to travel from site to site, with compensation provided
for mileage.
The successful candidate will be awarded a one-year
contract with the possibility of extension.
